PD53 - Budesonide therapy reduces sCD30-levels in atopic infants with recurrent respiratory symptoms
نویسندگان
چکیده
Only minority of infants with recurrent or persistent respiratory symptoms will develop asthma. The development of asthma is associated with Th1and Th2-cell activity imbalance. Increased levels of Th1 activation marker, serum soluble CD26 (sCD26), and Th2 activation marker, serum soluble CD30 (sCD30) have been found in asthmatic adults and school children. Whether these markers are of clinical use in infants with troublesome lung symptoms has not been evaluated before. Altogether 43 children aged 4 to 26 months with persistent cough, recurrent wheeze, or shortness of breath were investigated clinically and randomized to receive either

Efficacy of inhaled corticosteroids in infants and preschoolers with recurrent wheezing and asthma: a systematic review with meta-analysis.
OBJECTIVE To compare the efficacy of inhaled corticosteroids in infants and preschoolers with recurrent wheezing or asthma. METHODS Randomized, prospective, controlled trials published January 1996 to March 2008 with a minimum of 4 weeks of inhaled corticosteroids versus placebo were retrieved through Medline, Embase, and Central databases. The primary outcome was wheezing/asthma exacerbation...
متن کاملAtopy is a risk factor for respiratory symptoms in COPD patients: results from the EUROSCOP study
BACKGROUND The pathogenesis of COPD is complex and remains poorly understood. The European Respiratory Society Study on Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (EUROSCOP) investigated long-term effects of budesonide; 18% of the COPD participants were atopic. So far effects of atopy on the long-term course of COPD have not been elucidated. METHODS Factors related to the presence of atopy (positi...
متن کاملIntermittent inhaled corticosteroids in infants with episodic wheezing.
BACKGROUND We hypothesized that asthma is preceded by a stage of recurrent episodes of wheezing during the first years of life and that inhaled corticosteroid therapy during symptomatic episodes in this early phase may delay progression to persistent wheezing. METHODS We assigned one-month-old infants to treatment with two-week courses of inhaled budesonide (400 mug per day) or placebo, initi...
متن کاملSoluble CD30 in Normal Pregnancy Pre-Eclampsia and Recurrent Pregnancy Loss
Background: Normal pregnancy is thought to be dependent on Th2 deviation, while Recurrent Pregnancy Loss (RPL) and Pre-eclampsia (PE) appear to be biased toward the Th1 immune response. It is believed that the soluble form of CD30 (sCD30) is an index of Th2 immune response or modulator of Th1/Th2 responses. Objective: The aim of this study was determination of the sCD30 level in RPL and PE pati...
متن کاملEVALUATION OF SERUM IgG SUBCLASS LEVELS IN ASTHMATIC AND ATOPIC CHILDREN WITH RECURRENT INFECTION
Serum IgG subclass levels were measured using an indirect immunoenzymatic assay (ELISA) with monoclonal antibodies in 16 children with asthma and 13 children with atopy who had mostly recurrent infections. Seven of the asthmatic children had marked low or low normal levels of IgG4, six had marked low or low normal levels of IgG 3, two had marked low normal levels of both IgG2, and IgG 3 and...
